The Maritime Culture and Geopolitics Research Unit of the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences, University of Malaya is proud to announce the upcoming 7th International Seminar on Maritime Culture and Geopolitics, which will be held on  4th and 5th November 2014 at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The theme of the seminar is Social and Economic Sustainability of South China Sea Coastal Communities.

The seminar is a follow up to the previous Maritime Culture and Geopolitics seminars held from 2008 to 2013  that brought many paper presenters whose papers were later published as part of the Institute’s Monograph Series and Journals. The 7th International Seminar on Maritime Culture and Geopolitics aims to bring together academics, scholars, observers and experts to discuss, debate and examine the vital issues affecting maritime and coastal communities around the globe. These communities possess unique identities, which have been reflected through the sharing of cultures and knowledge of the sea. In recent times, however, these communities face insurmountable changes brought on by the effects of modernization and globalization, affecting the livelihood and identities of maritime and coastal communities.
