The Asian CORE Program (ACP): Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia was initiated in 2005 by Professor Dr. Minoru Isobe from the Nagoya University, Japan, who has had extensive personal and bilateral ties with chemists from many Asian countries. This program was originally established with joint efforts among 5 core institutions, including the Nagoya University (Japan), the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea), the Chulabhorn Research Institute (Thailand), and the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan). The program was then expanded to include 7 other institutions in Japan, 14 institutions in China (including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), 5 institutions in Taiwan, 6 institutions in South Korea and 10 institutions in Thailand.Subsequently, institutions from Singapore and Malaysia also joined the program.
The establishment of this international collaborative program in Asia is based on the principle of equal partnership among all the participating countries. The goals for this collaborative program are to elevate the rigor of chemistry research in each participating country, to facilitate high-quality research in the field of organic chemistry and to create lasting world-class research hubs, while concurrently nurturing the next generation of leading organic chemists in East and Southeast Asian regions.
The scope of organic chemistry in this program, however, is not limited to the core areas of organic synthesis, methodology, and total synthesis, but also include natural products chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, nano-chemistry, green chemistry, structural and material sciences, environmental chemistry, as well as the applications of these fields to ultimately benefit society and the economy of the Asian region.
International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia (ICCEOCA)/ New Phase International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia (NICCEOCA) is one of the key activities of the ACP. The ICCEOCA-9/NICCEOCA-5 will take place in Malaysia at the Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia from 01 to 04 December, 2014. The four-day event is supported by the University of Malaya, Malaysia as well as other cooperating institutions of participating regions and countries in the region. Planned activities for the four-day program for the ICCEOCA-9/NICCEOCA-5 will include oral and poster presentations, social activities and sponsor's exhibition. Throughout the conference, participants will have the opportunity to exchange information on the latest in organic chemistry research, establish friendships and forge new ties and network with targeted collaborators.
"Core Lectureship Awards" is another key activity under the ACP. The awards are presented to scientists who show frontier area in the field. Each lectureship trip lasts about one-week and the winner will receive travel support and an invitation to deliver a series of lectures in participating countries.
For paper submission and participation at the conference, please contact your respective country coordinator(s).
We look forward to welcoming you at ICCEOCA-9 and NICCEOCA-5 in Malaysia!
