18th – 20th December 2014

Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya

This symposium focuses on species diversity of Asian terrestrial vertebrates especially mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians; and building of network of specimens, researchers, and relevant information among Asian countries.

Keynote/plenary lectures, and oral and poster presentations will be presented at the symposium to exchange and discuss the relevant research areas. This symposium will be made within JSPS Core-to-Core Program "Asian Vertebrate Species Diversity Network Platform with Combining Researchers, Specimens and Information" (Coordinator: Dr. MOTOKAWA Masaharu, April 2014–March 2017) for developing academic collaboration and exchange among Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia with designated core institutions: Kyoto University Museum, Shandong University (Coordinator: Dr. LI Yuchun), Seoul National University (Coordinator: Dr. LEE Hang), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology - Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (Coordinator: Mr. NGUYEN Truong Son), Chulalongkorn University (Coordinator: Dr. Panha Somsak), Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Malaya (Coordinator: Dr. Rosli Hashim), and Research Center for Biology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) (Coordinator: Dr. Hamidy Amir). This symposium is open for scientists who are interested in terrestrial vertebrates in Asia.

Previously, similar symposiums has been conducted in China, Japan and Vietname (2013). The number of participants is increased from 55 to 72 and last year 88 participants were participated in this symposium. This year we expect more than hundred participants will join this symposium.

UM will host the 4th AVIS on 18-20th December 2014 at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 4th AVIS will cover the topics related to Asian vertebrate species diversity such as taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, conservation, fauna, and so on, or museum and information management that may be useful in developing Asian network. To facilitate formation of specimen network, institutional introduction poster including collection status of the core and cooperating institution as well as institutions for participants are also welcome.
