Owen Brooker is a Chartered Engineer and a member of both the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). He has a broad range of experience in the field of structural engineer but is more recently focused on the design of concrete structures. Mr. Brooker is currently the technical director of Modulus in the United Kingdom and he has considerable experience in preparing and delivering Eurocode 2 training courses for consultants all over the world, including in the UK, Singapore, China, Qatar, Korea and Turkey. Additionally, he is currently the Chair of the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Technical Publication Panel, Chair of the Concrete Society’s Design Group, Chair of the Steering Group for the IStructE Robustness for Class 3 Structures Report, Chair of the Task Group for the 4th edition of the IStructE Standard Method of Detailing Structural Concrete as well as Chair of the Working Party for the 3rd edition of the Concrete Society’s Post-tensioned concrete floors: Design Handbook, amongst others.
Dr. Marios Soutsos is currently a Professor in the School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen’s University of Belfast (QUB), United Kingdom. Prior to his appointment in QUB, Prof. Dr. Marios Soutsos was a lecturer/reader in structures and concrete technology at the Centre of Engineering Sustainability, School of Engineering, The University of Liverpool from 1995 to 2011.He has had industrial experience in Cyprus, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain prior returning to the Academia. The principal research interest of Prof. Dr. Marios Soutsos is in construction materials, construction materials and current interests include: high strength concrete, cement replacement materials, chemical admixtures, concrete rheology, the use of recycled demolition aggregate in concrete products, repair materials, heat of hydration effects in concrete structures, as well as alkali activated binder. He has been Principal Investigator for two EPSRC and two EU research grants, Co-Investigator for three EPSRC/EU research grants and Co-Investigator for the DoE funded Cardington concrete frame project, with total research income exceeding six million pounds. He has authored over 100 technical publications and is the editor for the book entitled Concrete Durability: A Practical Guide to the Design of Durable Concrete Structures, as well as contributed to three other books.
