  INTRODUCTION

ICoPFM 2011
I
NTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PROJECT and FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

"ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH STRATEGIC PROJECT AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT "

18 -19 May 2011

BACKGROUND

Sustainability is a common and important theme in the field of built environment. It is important from the project management point of view during construction and also post-construction, from the view of facilities management.  Addressing the issues of sustainability alongside corporate objectives, outsourcing services and supply chain system needs total integration to arrive at a systematic project and facilities management of a premise. This lack of attention and drive to address this issue effectively has created problems that contributed to the failure in the creation a sustainable environment generally and working premises specifically. This problem has further contributed to countless issues and problems to the clients, building users and also service providers. Inefficiency of project and facilities management implementation also led to disorganization of daily maintenance and indirectly affected the corporate aims and missions of the premise organizations.

People concerned about project and facilities management and its benefits are therefore finding it necessary to develop new knowledge, skills and attitude and to work together in increasingly collaborative ways.  However, little information is available to develop skill and knowledge of the project and facilities management personnel effectively.

ICoPFM 2011 will bring together national and international frontline thinkers, academics, executives, government and business officials, practitioners and leaders to present and discuss the pivotal role of project and facilities management in the achievement of excellence organisations.
