  OBJECTIVES

The objective of this seminar, “Ibn Khaldun: Theoretical and Empirical Relevance”, is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for those scholars and students who wish to critically examine theoretical and empirical works in Ibn Khaldun studies. It is hoped that such work can turn Ibn Khaldun into a subject of lively debates on theory, methodology and empirical studies. The assumption is that Ibn Khaldun should not only be seen as a precursor of the modern social sciences but also as an alternative to them as well. Accordingly, the theoretical and methodological relevance of Ibn Khaldun must be discussed and his framework must be shown to be applicable to historical and contemporary issues.
