Your contributions should deal with one of the following themes:
1. Ibn Khaldun and the methodology of the modern social sciences – what are the salient features of Ibn Khaldun’s methodology that remain relevant for the modern study of history and society?
2. Ibn Khaldun’s theories of state and society – what have been the attempts to apply Ibn Khaldun’s theories to specific historical cases such as the rise and decline of the Ottoman Empire, the Mongol conquest of China or the emergence of religious reform in the Maghreb? Have these applications been systematic. Is it possible to speak of a Khaldunian historical sociology?
3. Applying Ibn Khaldun to contemporary society - How can Ibn Khaldun’s theory be applied to the study of modern political, economic, cultural, and religious phenomena? Is it possible to interpret ethnic conflicts, or the rise and fall of modern regimes using Ibn Khaldun’s theory?
