Abstract : This work reports the enhancement of ionic conductivity in methyl cellulose-NH4NO3 polymer electrolyte after the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) plasticizer. The polymer electrolyte films were prepared by the technique of solution casting. The ionic conductivity of these polymer electrolyte films are characterized using electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The room temperature conductivity of methyl cellulose doped with NH4NO3 is (2.1 ± 0.37) x 10-6 S cm-1 and after the addition of PEG the conductivity is (1.1 ± 0.24) x 10-4 S cm-1. Temperature dependence of the conductivity of plasticized polymer electrolytes seems to obey Arrhenius relationship.
Keywords : methyl cellulose, ammonium nitrate, polyethylene glycol, ionic conductivity
